National climate change risk assessment

Next due: 2032

About these reports

Every six years, the Commission is required to deliver a national climate change risk assessment (NCCRA). The reports look at how Aotearoa New Zealand may be affected by climate change-related risks, and where focused and coordinated action can make the biggest difference.

The risk assessment helps decision-makers clarify where proactive planning and upfront investment can make the biggest difference, including through the Government's national adaptation plan.

This work is required under section 5ZP of the Climate Change Response Act 2002.

Our first risk assessment was published in 2026. Our next one is due in 2032.
